Brazil icon Kaka has named his two favorites for the 2026 FIFA World Cup title. He believes one of France or Spain will lift the trophy, as he hailed the quality of their squad.
France have won the FIFA World Cup twice: 1998 and 2018. They also reached the final in the last edition in 2022, but lost to Argentina on penalties in the final in Qatar. Spain, on the other hand, have won one FIFA World Cup trophy: 2010. They were eliminated in the Round of 16 by Morocco in the last edition.

Former Brazil midfielder Kaka believes either of these two sides can win the tournament this year, as he said on ESPNFC:
“Well, my favourites are France and Spain. France, because of the time they have been playing together, they have already made it to two World Cup finals, excellent individual players. But this context of the team as a whole, for me, is very strong. They have been playing together for a long time with the same coach. That provides experience, which is important for a national team in a World Cup.
“And Spain because of the talent they have, the way they’ve been playing, an excellent coach and a star that is Lamine. I don’t know in what condition he is, you know, physically, but I think those are two teams that could surprise with the title,” he added.
Notably, Spain come into this tournament as the European champions, having won the UEFA Euro 2024.
A look at Spain and France’s groups at the 2026 FIFA World Cup
Both sides finished at the top of their respective groups in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. Both sides also managed five wins and one draw in their six qualifying games. Spain drew 1-1 against Iraq and beat Peru 3-1 in their pre-tournament friendlies. Meanwhile, France beat Ivory Coast 2-1 and Northern Ireland 3-1 in their friendlies.
Spain have been drawn into Group H at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Cabo Verde, Saudi Arabia, and Uruguay. They will begin their campaign against Cabo Verde in Atlanta on June 15. They will then face Saudi Arabia in Atlanta on June 21 and Uruguay in Zapopan, Mexico, on June 26.
Meanwhile, France are in group I with Senegal, Iraq, and Norway. They will begin their campaign against Senegal in New Jersey on June 16. They will then face Iraq in Philadelphia on June 22 and Norway in Boston on June 26.
