Back in 2024, a fifth Shrek movie was announced for 2026. But then, in August 2025, Shrek 5 was shifted to 2027. Any ogre fanatics frustrated by the delay—the fourth Shrek film, Shrek Forever Afterreleased in the ancient past of 2010—now have something to tide them over: a first teaser.
Shrek 5 brings back the regulars (Mike Myers as Shrek; Cameron Diaz as Fiona; Eddie Murphy as Donkey) and adds a new trio playing Shrek and Fiona’s kids: Zendaya (Felicia), Marcello Hernández (Fergus), and Skyler Gisondo (Farkle).
You won’t get to hear Zendaya or any of the other additions in this teaser, though, which is very heavy on Murphy’s Donkey riffs.
Also, there’s a small yet threatening tease of Smash Mouth’s “All Star,” and some solid evidence that Shrek 5 won’t be shying away from ribald humor this time around. Were you ready to see the Gingerbread Man’s bouncy new gumdrop butt? Because we’ll be haunted by that until at least June 30, 2027.
So far there are no plot details beyond what’s in that teaser; it’s described as “a thrilling, magical new comedy adventure,” which will clearly include some lighthearted jail time. The directors of Shrek 5 are Conrad Vernon (Shrek 2, Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted; he also does the voice of “Gingy”) and Walt Dohrn (a veteran of the past three Shrek movies as well as the Trolls franchise).
