Brandon Bussi is now helping the Hurricanes in the Stanley Cup Final, but six years ago, he was working a summer job at Chipotle.
B/R Open Ice shared on X that Bussi worked as a crew member at Chipotle Mexican Grill during the summer of 2020 while continuing to pursue his hockey career. According to his LinkedIn profile, Bussi held the job from June 2020 to August 2020.
His LinkedIn profile described the role as a “summer job” with responsibilities that included preparing food and providing customer service.
The post quickly drew reactions from fans, many of whom pointed out that there is nothing unusual about having a part-time job before achieving your goals.
“Why is that funny…gotta do what you gotta do,” one fan wrote.
“Why is that funny? Breaking news people have to work before achieving their dreams?” another commented.
“And it’s probably some, going no where, intern getting nothing to post dumb shit like this,” another user added.
Some fans also spoke about the lessons that come from those experiences.
“Part time jobs prepare you for life and confer tons of real world learning. Don’t knock it til you try it,” one fan wrote.
Another added, “Yeah, I wouldn’t say it’s funny, but it’s crazy to think that in six years he goes from Chipotle to one of the best goalies in the NHL playing in a Stanley Cup final.. a rare Gen Z success story.”
At the time, Bussi was committed to Western Michigan University after playing in the USPHL’s National Collegiate Development Conference with the P.A.L. Jr. Islanders. He later spent three seasons with the Broncos before turning professional.
Brandon Bussi made his NHL debut on Oct. 14, 2025, stopping 16 of 17 shots in a 5-1 win over the San Jose Sharks. The 27-year-old now finds himself one victory away from becoming a Stanley Cup champion.

Brandon Bussi began the playoffs as Frederik Andersen’s backup but has since played an important role for Carolina in the Stanley Cup Final.
The 27-year-old has won his first two playoff starts, helping the Hurricanes take a 3-2 series lead over Vegas.
In Game 5, Bussi stopped 23 of 25 shots as Carolina moved within one win of the Stanley Cup. He made several important saves early in the game before helping the Hurricanes protect their lead late on.
Brandon Bussi joined Carolina after being claimed off waivers from Florida before the season. He went on to post a 31-6-2 record and became the fastest goaltender in NHL history to reach 20 career wins, doing so in 24 games.
His performances earned him a three-year, $5.7 million contract extension in February. Less than a year after arriving in Carolina, Bussi has gone from starting the playoffs as Frederik Andersen’s backup to playing in the Stanley Cup Final.
