I’ve been continuing to pursue my distance challenge in the time since my last post, with decent-length rides each day. As of July 25th I’ve done 813 miles (1309 km), so I’ve got six days left to make it to 1000. Before I get big-headed about this, the leader in the challenge worldwide in the 70-74 age group has done 2390 miles (3850 km) so far and I am in 235th place in my age group. Still, this will be a lifetime PR for me for mileage in a month and I’m having fun pursuing it.
Last Sunday I did a long ride of 84 km in 3 hours 15 minutes, mostly in the mountains northwest to southwest of Morgan Hill.

Fortunately it has a decent shoulder on the portion I traveled.Passing some vineyards on Hecker Pass HighwayThe highway starts the climb to the pass here, but the shoulder runs out.
