Wrestlers often bring the curtain down on their in-ring careers after entering the WWE Hall of Fame.
Rey Mysterio was an exception, as he took his rightful place in the Hall of Fame Class of 2023 while still being an active member of the roster.
Thanks for the submission!
The Master of 619 recently opened up about his conversation with Triple H, and whether he was asked to retire from in-ring competition.
Rey Mysterio, at 51, is still going strong and has shown no signs of slowing down. Despite being riddled with injuries lately, he continues to perform at the top of his game.
He has also taken up a non-wrestling role lately, becoming the new General Manager of Lucha Libre AAA.
Speaking on Six Feet Under with The UndertakerRey Mysterio recalled telling Triple H that he was not ready to retire when he was told about his Hall of Fame induction back in 2023.
“When I was brought up, the opportunity to enter the Hall of Fame, I was like, ‘Wait a minute.’ It was Hunter [Triple H] I believe told me, I said, ‘Hunter bro, I’m not ready to retire, I wanna keep going.’ He went, ‘No no no, we’re not asking you to retire, we just think it’s probably the best time to put you in the Hall of Fame.”
He revealed that WWE felt it was the right time for him to get inducted into the Hall of Fame, considering he was feuding with his son, Dominik Mysterio, at that time.
“This was right when I faced Dom in LA at WrestleMania, so for them it felt like the perfect timing. So I said ‘Yeah, lets do it, if you feel it’s the right timing lets go.’ And little did I know I would be the only active Hall of Famer on the roster that’s still going.”
Rey Mysterio was most recently seen in action on WWE RAW this past week, where he unsuccessfully challenged Penta for the Intercontinental Championship in a dream match.
After the match, as the two men were embracing each other, Ethan Page and Rusev ambushed them from behind. It didn’t take long for Dragon Lee to come to their aid, but the numbers game caught up to him, as well.
During the tussle, Rusev ripped Rey Mysterio’s mask off, forcing Chad Gable to come out to send the heels packing.
The former Alpha Academy member not only saved the WWE Hall of Famer from embarrassment but also returned his mask.
His post-match gesture solidified his face turn, having already apologized to many Mexican wrestlers on RAW and SmackDown for impersonating a Luchador.
Will Rey Mysterio join forces with Chad Gable against Rusev and Ethan Page? Only time will tell.
