ONE interim featherweight Muay Thai world champion “King of the North” Nico Carrillo of Scotland is one of the most powerful strikers in ONE Championship.
But one of the biggest problems heavy punchers naturally face is quick-fading endurance. Carrillo makes it a point to work on his stamina so he can sustain his high-octane offense in the ring. “King of the North” achieves this by training in the gruelling Scottish terrain back home when he’s training.
Speaking to ONE Championship in a recent interview, Carrillo revealed his favorite form of endurance training to prepare for his explosive performances in the ring:

“It is the natural Scottish terrain, after all, I guess. Hills everywhere, but with that come absolutely amazing views, too. But, if there’s one thing I love above all, it is running on a trail. I love trail running. That’s my favorite.”
Needless to say, any fighter who is trapped in the ring with Carrillo is faced with the almost impossible task of avoiding his power shots. And because of his stamina, “King of the North” tends to overwhelm his foes with pressure.
One of “King of the North” Nico Carrillo’s best training methods is trail running. It’s something the 27-year-old swears by whenever he’s getting ready for a big fight.
The Scottish knockout artist said:
“During the first few weeks of camp, I do my threshold running every Monday. It is one kilometer repeats. It’s the best way to build the engine. And then, I will stop doing that as I get closer to the fight. I just have so much experience running, and I know what helps with my stamina, which ones help you stay explosive, which ones develop more speed. There’s this and that. So, I just know what to do and when to do it.”
