Cleveland Guardians opened a three-game series against the New York Yankees on Tuesday. During the series opener, Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. faced backlash from Guardians broadcaster Tom Hamilton.
As Chishom was due on the plate in the bottom of the second inning, Hamilton brought up the Yankees’ All-Star appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.”
Hamilton took a jab at Chisholm for predicting the Yankees to win the World Series during a conversation with Fallon on his show.

“That will bring up Jazz Chisholm. Well, he predicted the Yankees would win the World Series. He did that on the Jimmy Fallon show. Pretty amazing he got on the Jimmy Fallon show batting .239,” Hamilton said.
Although Chisholm drove in a run for the Yankees in their 9-4 loss on Tuesday, the All-Star infielder has struggled at the plate this season. Chisholm entered the contest with a wRC+ of 98, ranked among the 60 worst in baseball.
His strikeout rate (27.5%) is also among the 30 worst along with his swinging strike rate being in the 50 worst this season.
The Yankees have made the postseason in eight out of the last nine seasons but their one shot at the World Series ended in heartbreak against the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2024.
Despite their postseason exit at the hands of AL East rivals the Toronto Blue Jays last season, Jazz Chisholm Jr. is backing the Bronx Bombers to go all the way this season.
When asked about the Yankees’ goal this season by Jimmy Fallon, Chisholm replied:
“I mean, to win a World Series. We’re in New York.”
Despite injuries to Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon and Max Fried, the Yankees have kept pace with AL East leaders, the Tampa Bay Rays. With the return of Cole, the Yankees’ postseason chances have received a major boost.
