The AEW commentary team member Excalibur took reference from a popular show to signal the end of this week’s edition of Dynamite.
The June 3 episode of All Elite Wrestling’s flagship show was a thrilling edition, marking the first of Pride Month. It began with an explosive AEW World Championship match between MJF and Rush. Furthermore, it featured shocking moments, such as Kevin Knight pledging his allegiance to The Don Callis Family and Mercedes Mone making her shocking return to the Jacksonville-based promotion after nearly six months.
In the main event of the show, Will Ospreay squared off in an explosive bout against Mark Davis in the semi-finals of the Owen Hart Foundation Cup tournament. The Aerial Assassin emerged victorious and advanced to the finals of the prestigious competition, bringing him one step closer to a potential World Championship match at AEW’s premier event, All In. As Ospreay was greeting the fans outside the ring post-match, Excalibur delivered an interesting statement to close out on the show:
“Fix your hearts or Die. This is All Elite Wrestling.”
This was a reference from the popular show, ‘Twin Peaks.’ It was during one of the episodes where the late David Lynch, who played an FBI agent, said those words in support of a transgender colleague.
AEW commentator Excalibur’s reason for retiring from in-ring competition
Before he was one of the voices of the AEW commentary desk, Excalibur was also an in-ring competitor. In a conversation with his colleague Tony Schiavone, he revealed the reason behind his retirement. The 45-year-old star said he sustained multiple injuries during his tenure and decided to retire for long-term health reasons.
“I wrestled for a number of years, but in doing so, picked up a lot of injuries, you know? Knees, lower back, shoulder, and then the thing that scared me the most was the head injuries, and I had quite a few concussions throughout my career. So I think it was 2008, I finally decided, just for my long-term health, I was never going to be a pro wrestler.”
As Excalibur continues to be a regular fixture on All Elite Wrestling television, it remains to be seen what is next for him.
