The OKC Thunder’s hopes of back-to-back championships came to an end on Saturday following a 111-103 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 7 of the Western Conference finals. Amid several factors behind the defeat, many fans singled out Chet Holmgren, turning on him for his underwhelming display in the decisive game.
The big man was a no-show against the Spurs, recording 4 points and 4 rebounds while shooting 1-of-2 from the field. Underdog NBA highlighted this subpar performance on X (formerly Twitter).
Thanks for the submission!
“Chet Holmgren in Game 7 loss vs. Spurs: 4 PTS, 1-2 FG, 4 REB, 2 TO. Attempted 0 shots in the second half. His 5-year, $239.9M extension kicks in next year,” Underdog NBA wrote.

Holmgren’s stat line quickly drew attention online, with fans criticizing the center for failing to step up in a must-win game.
The backlash intensified as some fans went as far as suggesting roster changes, including calls to move on from Holmgren in favor of a superstar option like Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Although Holmgren’s performance left fans frustrated, many also debated his long-term future in OKC, especially with his new contract set to begin next year.
The Thunder star signed a five-year, $239.9 million extension following last season’s championship run, but his Game 7 showing raised questions about whether he can justify that investment.
Viewed as the secondary star alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Holmgren was expected to support the MVP in high-pressure moments. Instead, he struggled to make an impact, failing to attempt a single shot in the second half while also offering little defensive presence.
While his Game 7 outing and OKC’s exit have intensified scrutiny, it remains to be seen whether the franchise will consider any major decisions regarding his future this offseason.
Chet Holmgren’s performance in the Thunder’s Game 7 loss to the Spurs remains a major talking point among fans and the media. The center was largely ineffective during the outing and was criticized by many.
OKC coach Mark Daigneault, however, showed support for his center while reflecting on his underwhelming display..
“I mean, some of that’s on me,” Daigneault said (Timestamp: 4:32). “Some of that’s on the way we approached the game. That’s not all on him. I actually thought he played his minutes pretty well.
“I thought that run at the end of the second quarter that got us back going and cut into the game, he was a huge part of that in ways that may not be in the box score or visible.”

Despite Daigneault’s backing, Holmgren’s performance fell short of expectations, raising questions about his consistency in high-pressure situations as scrutiny around his role and future in OKC continues to grow.
