Denny Hamlin name-dropped Brent Crews as a potential successor for his No.11 JGR Toyota. Hamlin made the admission during a post-race segment after his Michigan win.
Hamlin pulled off a last-to-first finish on Sunday’s FireKeepers 400, making it his second consecutive and third race win of the season. He’s now just 51 points behind Tyler Reddick, and with 11 races left, Hamlin stands a shot at the regular season title.
Thanks for the submission!
At 45 years of age, Hamlin is showing no signs of slowing down, but the Virginia native hasn’t signed a contract extension with JGR. Notably, his multi-year deal runs through 2027.
When asked about the same, Hamlin replied,
“I don’t want to leave them kind of in flux. They they’ve got a great driver in Brent Crews, that’s going to be ready more than likely by the end of next year. So I don’t know. I mean, it’d be hard if it was right now, it’d be really hard. But I find it hard to believe we’re going to be at this level at this time next year.”
Brent Crews is currently competing in the O’Reilly Series with JGR’s No.19 Toyota Supra. The 18-year-old finished top-5 in five of his 12 races this season. He’s ranked among the top-15 despite having fewer starts than the rest of the field.
His best finish so far is a runner-up at Talladega and Nashville.

Denny Hamlin remembered Kyle Busch and his family in his post-race comments. He also took a moment to honor the late Ned Jarrett, who used to drive the No.11 originally.
Reflecting upon the recent losses, Hamlin said (via NASCAR’s official website),
“Just grateful to be able strap in every week and I don’t take it for granted this opportunity that I’m in. Just love that we’re making the best of it.”
Denny Hamlin’s JGR teammate, Christopher Bell, faced a rather unlucky day at Michigan. He was collected by Chase Elliott during a final stage restart and slammed hard into the outside walls.
Fans were struck by how hard the impact looked, as NASCAR red-flagged the race and took 20 minutes to repair the barriers. Bell, meanwhile, refused to comment after getting released from the infield care center.
His team owner, Joe Gibbs, revealed that Bell was looking at a potential injury.
“We’re gonna make sure that he gets everything that he needs to get there, whatever it might be, and then we’ll just have to kind of wait. It was his wrist and his ankle, I think. So we’re just gonna have to wait,” he said.
Chase Elliott walked away relatively unhurt and promptly apologised to Bell. The result marks Bell’s third DNF this season, coming right after two straight runner-up finishes.
