Aston Villa rivalling Atletico Madrid and Arsenal to sign Nicolò Tresoldi

Aston Villa have come storming into the race to sign a striker who scored 23 goals this season and is being targeted by Atletico Madrid as a replacement for Julián Alvarez.

It looks like attacking stars will be the priority for Aston Villa this summer. Whether that’s related to the potential sale of Morgan Rogers remains one of many questions that will be answered in the coming months. In Villa’s ideal world, he’ll still be playing a starring role in the Midlands next season, but that ideal world doesn’t consider their never-ending SCR problems.

Even they won’t be able to deny the benefits of cashing in on their star man this summer. Rogers could even generate a fee similar to the £100m that Jack Grealish cost Manchester City many moons ago. If that’s the case, then Villa have financial freedom in waiting.

He’s not the only one that could be heading for the exit door, however. Tammy Abraham is also questioning his future, despite only rejoining the club in January. In search of a starting place, he’s reportedly caught the eye of Leeds United and Sunderland.

The forward’s departure would leave Unai Emery short on attacking options behind Ollie Watkins, forcing those at Villa Park to turn towards an impressive replacement.

According to The Athletic, Aston Villa are now rivalling Atletico Madrid to sign Nicolo Tresoldi in what could also deal Arsenal a disappointing blow.

The Gunners were credited with interest in the Club Brugge forward earlier this year, but could be beaten to the move by their Premier League rivals.

“Special” Tresoldi could replace Ollie Watkins

When Abraham arrived in the January transfer window, it was fairly clear that he would only provide backup for Watkins rather than acting as a replacement. In Tresoldi’s case, things may be different. The Club Brugge star is coming off the back of a 23-goal campaign in all competitions and has suitors like Atletico Madrid. If he’s not coming in to take Watkins’ place, then he may not arrive whatsoever.

At 30 years old, Watkins won’t be at the peak of his powers forever, either. There were already signs that he can’t be the star of the show every week this season and having someone like Tresoldi to gradually step up would be invaluable for Emery.

Dubbed “special” by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann after he was called up to the national team for the 2026 World Cup, Tresoldi has been in a clinical mood for the last 12 months and has more than earned the chance to complete a big move this summer.
