Arsenal in talks to sign “England’s Ousmane Dembele”

Bukayo Saka’s time at Arsenal has been some story. From a debut in the Europa League under Unai Emery to missing a crucial spot kick in the Euros final, to becoming a Premier League champion, the winger has not always had it easy.

He is supremely talented, he is not just Arsenal’s best player but he is one of England’s great hopes for the World Cup this summer too.

Sure, Saka’s numbers have waned slightly over the last year but he’s still an elite level talent. Now, Mikel Arteta and the Kroenkes need to provide him with more world-class attackers.

If there was one criticism during the title winning campaign it was the way in which they struggled to score regular goals. 11 of their matches in 2025/26 ended 1-0 to the Arsenal. You know the song; it’s customary that the Gunners do things that way.

However, now is the time to show a bit more ambition.

Arsenal looking to sign two new wingers

Speaking in the aftermath of the Champions League final, Arteta issued a call to arms. “We have to start to make some very important decisions if we want to reach another level. And we’re going to have to show that ambition. We are more than capable of doing it, but it’s going to demand us to be very, very ambitious, very fast and very smart.”

Well, if rumours are true, the hierarchy are set to match the manager’s ambition by handing him a pretty hefty transfer kitty.

Alongside Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi, they are targeting Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers. Those two are believed to be the top targets for Arsenal and they’d be simply phenomenal acquisitions for the champions.

The latest on Rogers is that while they have held talks on the player’s side, no club-to-club discussions have taken place yet.

The Gunners are really ramping up their plans for new signings and discussions are also in play for Leicester City’s exciting teenager Jeremy Monga.

Last week it was reported that the Gunners had sewn up an agreement on personal terms with the player and now, speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has delivered the latest on Monga’s situation.

Romano said: “Arsenal keep working on the deal for the talented kid. Arsenal want to sign him and they remain in negotiations, in conversations. They anticipate other clubs being interested in the boy. He is someone they see with potential and with possible development for the future.”

The price for the player is unlikely to be too expensive. Aged just 16, he has not penned professional terms with Leicester and thus, the financial terms of the move are likely to be agreed via a tribunal.

Why Saka will love playing with Monga

Ever since Arteta arrived in the building at the Emirates Stadium, Saka has been his starboy, his go-to man when things get tough. Even in the good times, it has often been the 24-year-old leading from the front.

In three of the six full seasons that the manager has been at the helm, the English forward has been the club’s top scorer.

Yet, for a number of reasons, his numbers have taken a hit, not least through injury and something of a loss in explosiveness but also because he’s regularly been double teamed by the opposition.

A lot of Arsenal’s attacks go through the right-hand side of the pitch. Their build-up, certainly when Martin Odegaard, Ben White and Saka are all fit and playing together, does have a right sided bias to it.

The evidence is there. No player has a better record alongside Saka than the club captain, Odegaard.

Yet, while there has been an overreliance on Saka, the players on the opposing flank simply haven’t been at the races. Gabriel Martinelli scored 11 goals in all competitions throughout 2025/26 but only one of those goals came in Premier League action. It’s safe to say he was not a very imperative part of their title win.

Leandro Trossard was but even he endured his personal struggles, notably failing to score for 25 straight matches before bagging that vital winner away at West Ham.

For a long time, Saka has needed a winger on the left flank capable of replicating his success, a player who attracts attention and draws defenders over to the opposite side of the pitch. In turn that would give the Hale Ender more freedom and more room to do his thing.

While Monga may not be arriving to become an immediate starter, the future is bright for this young talent. Despite his age, he has already played 37 senior matches. He’s also the third youngest player in Premier League history behind Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman.

Crucially, he possesses all the raw attributes to become an elite winger. Hailed as “England’s Ousmane Dembele” by Como scout Ben Mattinson, the teenager is fleet-footed and he’s devastating inside the penalty area.

He’s a superb dribbler of the football and once he starts feinting this way and that inside the penalty area, he looks a bit like Manchester City’s Jeremy Doku.

Speaking to Football.London last week, Leicester City writer Josh Holland provided insight on Monga’s best qualities. “Monga plays football like he is playing in the street. He is a remarkable ball-carrier who is obsessed with beating his man and driving forward.”

Holland continued: “His best position has been off the left, with him taking high/wide positions to collect the ball by the touch line and then drive inwards. He’s strong on both feet and has incredible agility.”

That sounds exactly like the type of winger Saka would love to play with. He needs someone to take the pressure away from him on the right. He needs someone who is capable of producing a similar level of threat off the left.

Monga will not walk into the starting lineup right away but the future is incredibly bright for this young individual. He looks like one of the finest English talents in the country.
