At the top of the third inning in Game 2 between the New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians, shortstop Anthony Volpe committed a costly fielding error that helped the Guardians get on the scoreboard. Aaron Boone defends Anthony Volpe’s role amid calls for Jose Caballero
Before Tuesday’s game at Progressive Field, Aaron Boone addressed the Anthony Volpe-Jose Caballero debate in an interview with Talkin’ Yanks. Boone said in some of the past games, Volpe has “squared some things up and not been rewarded,” so he wants to make sure both shortstops get an equal chance on the roster.
“I got a lot of really good options, and Caballero’s played very regularly since Volpe’s come up. So I’ll make the lineup, and then we’ll keep it moving…Everyone can’t start every day…He (Anthony Volpe) didn’t start yesterday,” Aaron Boone said.
In an interview with The Post, Jose Caballero said that he feels “way better” being in the infield as it’s his “natural position”. He boldly stated that no matter where he plays, he’ll “always be confident – but it feels good to be back at short.”
