This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite began with top star Andrade reuniting with his former partner moments before his high-stakes match.
The aforementioned star in question is Rush. As the June 3 episode of Dynamite went on the air, he was in a backstage interview with Renee Paquette. The Mexican star was set to go out and wrestle Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) for the AEW World Championship in the opening contest of the night, with Paquette revealing that the bout had been made No Count-outs now.
Just then, Rush’s long-time ally, Andrade, walked up to him. He motivated Rush to give his best effort, win the World title for himself and his family, and show MJF what The Bull was capable of before leaving the scene and firing up an already focused Rush.
Both men were founding members of the influential faction ‘Los Ingobernables’ in CMLL in 2014. Years later, they had their first reunion in AEW, during a brief tenure when Andrade joined the promotion and reformed the faction with Rush and his brother, Dralistico, who came to be known as La Facción Ingobernable (LFI).
Rush took the former WWE star’s words of motivation and walked down to the ring to square off against MJF in one of the biggest matches of his AEW career. Moreover, he took The Devil to the limit when both men were declared unfit to continue, and the match was called off. However, he asked it to be restarted and continued to fight in hopes of becoming champion.
Despite his valiant effort, Rush was unable to dethrone MJF, who defeated him via submission. While he lost the match, it will be interesting to see whether the reunion fans witnessed was a one-off or lead to becoming a full-time team moving forward.
