The India National Cricket Team will be featuring against the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team for a two-match Test series away from home as part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-2027. As per the reports, the venue for the first Test is reportedly set to begin on the 15th of August 2026 at Galle International Stadium in southern Sri Lanka.

Ahead of that, for the Men in Blue side, there are no Tests, as they go for T20Is and ODI tours in Ireland, followed by England, and then play Zimbabwe on the road. The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) have already announced the T20I squad for the UK tour and the Asian Games 2026.

India to play in Sri Lanka after 9 years

This is going to be a hard Test for Shubman Gill’s side as they prepare to climb up the WTC cycle. The venue for the second Test, which is expected to start on 23rd August, has not been announced yet. It is most likely to be given to the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) Ground in central Colombo.

India last visited Sri Lanka for a Test series back in 2017, when Virat Kohli was the captain of the side, and nearly a decade later, they once again visit the Islanders. As the last time India visited for a Test series, they swept the home side, winning the series 3-0. However, since then, a lot of things have changed for the Men in Blue side.

Sri Lanka to trouble Shubman Gill and his boys with spin

India recently had a dominating win over Afghanistan in a one-off Test, which was not a part of the WTC cycle. As the home side defeated the Afghans by an innings and 300 runs, which turned out to be their highest margin win in Test cricket, surpassing their previous record of beating West Indies back in 2018, where they won by an innings and 272 runs.

However, the problem with Shubman Gill and his boys are that they have lost two home series against New Zealand and South Africa, respectively, which showcases their deeper concerns of troubling against spin and with spin tracks in Sri Lanka, the Men in Blue will be very cautious about their problems against spin and will look to overcome them in the series.

We will finalise the schedule soon- Devajit Saikia on 3-T20I series vs Sri Lanka

As per Cricbuzz, apart from the Test series, India could also play three T20Is. As per the reports from Cricbuzz, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia recently commented on the matter. “There is a request for three matches and we will finalise the schedule soon,” Saikia told the media.

The squad for the Sri Lanka series is yet to be announced, and some senior players like Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja can be back for the series given their experience of playing in Sri Lankan conditions before. It is believed that Manav Suthar will be the fourth spinner to feature for India as he performed amazingly in the Test vs Afghanistan.
