Beloved ex-World Champion’s release was announced behind his back (REPORTS)

There were a couple of releases that happened in wrestling recently, with one former World Champion being let go upon his request. What was shocking was that the announcement of the cut, as well as the other one, happened behind their backs.

We are, of course, talking about the dual TNA releases of Steve Maclin, fka Steve Cutler, and Myla Grace – the Irish sensation. Steve Maclin had a great deal of success in TNA in the last few years and was one of the cornerstones of the company. It was announced by the company that Maclin and Grace were let go, with both requesting that they be let go. However, things are apparently quite messy behind the scenes.

According to a report on Fightful Select, former TNA World Heavyweight Champion Steve Maclin had hoped that the company would be quiet about the departure, but TNA chose to put out a press release instead. This was done without the consent of Maclin or Myle Grace.

Could AEW or WWE be interested in the two newest released stars?

AEW or WWE could have two very interesting signings to make. One has to wonder which promotion they will be a better fit for. Steve Maclin was known as Steve Cutler in WWE prior to his release in 2021. He was a part of The Forgotten Sons along with Wesley Blake (the former tag team partner of Buddy Murphy) and Jaxson Ryker – a name that has now been forgotten by many.

It was an extremely unfortunate situation as Ryker made the worst possible mistake. It was June 2020, during the peak of the Black Lives Matter movement, an extremely politically charged and tense time in the USA. Ryker controversially expressed public support for Donald Trump, instantly getting him heat from every corner. When the backlash reached backstage, WWE decided to act on it by taking The Forgotten Sons off television despite the fact that Maclin (Cutler) and Blake did nothing wrong.

This would serve as the end of their WWE careers, and Maclin would go on to sign with TNA, where he would enjoy a lot of success. One has to wonder whether he will be a better fit for AEW or WWE following the cut/departure.

As for Myla Grace, she, too, is an extremely good talent who could thrive in either company. Both AEW and WWE have stacked women’s divisions, but one has to wonder whether AEW has a bit more space for her.

In terms of NXT, the division is still quite stacked despite some significant names heading to the main roster, such as Jordynne Grace and Blake Monroe, among others.
