Mercedes Moné has just made a surprise appearance tonight on AEW Collision as she blindsided a top champion and launched a brutal attack on her. She did so given their history in the past year.
The CEO made her blockbuster return to All Elite Wrestling a few days ago on Dynamite, making her first appearance since early January. She emerged as the wildcard for this year’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament and took on Alex Windsor in the opening round. She was able to come off with the win to advance in the tournament.
Mercedes Moné will be taking on either Persephone or Hazuki in the second round of the tournament. Tonight, that competitor was determined as the two names faced off in the main event of this week’s episode of AEW Collision. It was a close match between both sides, but in the end, the Stardom star was able to shockingly beat the CMLL Women’s World Champion with a roll-up pin.
Persephone was clearly frustrated post-match, but the two women had a show of sportsmanship. All seemed well until Moné arrived and blindsided the luchadora. The two have history, as The Goddess was the one who dethroned Mercedes to become the CMLL Women’s World Champion back in March.
Mercedes Moné had her locked in her Statement Maker submission hold and would not let go. She only did so when Hazuki rushed back to save Persephone. The Japanese star is set to go to war with the CEO soon, with the winner of that match advancing to the finals of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament at Forbidden Door.
Despite taking some time off, it seems that Moné has not forgotten about the past few months and is looking for payback. She is currently going after the AEW Women’s World Title, the one title she has never held, and is a few steps away from her goal.
