Cara Delevingne has spoken publicly about a phone call she received from Harvey Weinstein early in her acting career, during which he questioned her about her relationships with women and warned that being gay would end her chances in Hollywood.
The 33-year-old model and actress shared the account during an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast with host Alex Cooper, published June 3, 2026. The episode, titled “Cara Delevingne: Sobriety, Sexuality & Self-Love,” covered her mental health journey, identity, and new music.

Cara Delevingne told host Alex Cooper that the call came while she was filming Face of an Angel in Italy, according to Just Jared’s coverage of the episode on June 3, 2026. Weinstein told her there were images of her with famous women and asked directly whether she was sleeping with them.
When Delevingne pushed back on the question, he reportedly continued.
“You’ll never be an actress. You’ll never be hired. People don’t want… we’ll have to find you a boyfriend. At least if you’re going to do that, just do it behind closed doors.”
Buzzfeed reported on June 4, 2026, that Cara Delevingne recalled her internal reaction at the time being fear rather than anger. She said,
“At that point, that wasn’t my reaction. I was like, ‘Oh f**k, I’ve always wanted to act, this is such a big deal for me'”
In the moment, she said she denied being gay.
“I just said, ‘I’m not gay, I promise you I’m not. I’m just not seeing a boy right now, I really love my female friends.’ I was pretty terrified.”
She added that every role she played at that point featured her in a straight relationship, saying.

This is not the first time Cara Delevingne has spoken about Harvey Weinstein. Variety reported in October 2017 that she had shared an Instagram statement detailing a separate hotel meeting with Weinstein in which he asked her to kiss another actress in the room and then tried to kiss her at the door as she left.
In that 2017 post, she wrote that she “felt guilty and terrified” and had worried the part she subsequently received came as a result of what had happened.
Cara Delevingne on her sexuality and the industry’s pressure
The Weinstein account was part of a broader conversation about Cara Delevingne’s experience navigating her sexuality in a public and professionally restrictive environment. Buzzfeed noted on June 4, 2026, that she told Cooper she had not wanted to be gay at the time, saying,
“I really want to fit in with people. I didn’t know any gay people. I definitely wasn’t straight.”

The model and actress revealed that a song that came on shuffle while she was alone in a hotel room, one that had reportedly been played at a friend’s funeral, prompted her to flush the drugs and begin the process of getting clean.
Delevingne credited her girlfriend Minke’s support as central to her recovery and described their relationship as grounding in a way she had not previously experienced. She framed her music as something that emerged from the clarity that followed sobriety. “I prayed to create something with this pain,” she said, per Just Jared.
She acknowledged that her public profile means people may come to the music ready to dismiss it, but said she held herself to a standard where the work needed to be genuinely good before she would release it.
Cara Delevingne’s music debut: two songs rooted in sobriety and mental health
Cara Delevingne’s first two songs, I Forgot and Out of My Headwere released on May 30, 2026, and she discussed both tracks with BBC Radio 1 presenter Jack Saunders on the New Music Show, as reported by the BBC on June 2, 2026.
Delevingne described Out of My Head as inspired by her first year of sobriety and the “internal conflict and disassociation and all that fun stuff” she experienced during that period, with the chorus reflecting something she said she has to actively practice every day to manage her overthinking.
I Forgot was written to capture the emotional rawness of mental health struggles, framed partly as a release of anger, something she said she had never been particularly good at expressing. She told the BBC she wanted to create a song she could “absolutely just lose it to,” describing music as the healthiest outlet she had found for those emotions.
Both tracks are accompanied by a single seven-minute cinematic music video directed by Jessica Lee Gagné, the lead cinematographer behind the psychological thriller series Severance. Delevingne said Gagné had initially turned the project down due to scheduling but agreed after listening to the music and connecting with it personally.
Cara Delevingne told the BBC she had to consciously learn to take herself more seriously going into music, knowing audiences would arrive with preconceptions shaped by her modelling and acting career. She described wanting to use the project to communicate something more personal and universal.
