Lil Nas X worried fans in August 2025 when he was arrested after being spotted walking down Ventura Boulevard in only underwear and a pair of cowboy boots. Since then, he’s kept a relatively low profile, but now he’s broken his silence, revealing he had a stint in rehab but is doing better.

Lil Nas X broke his social media silence in June 2025 with a video posted to his official Instagram account. In it, the “Old Town Road” rapper can be seen standing over the camera with the blue sky behind him. He began by admitting that opening up about his situation is “really awkward.”
Lil Nas X continued, “First, where I’ve been. I’ve been in rehab for a few months, and since then I’ve been back at home.” He then clarified that “home” meant Atlanta with family in some instances, and Los Angeles with friends in others.
The rapper went on to say that he’s “trying to ground [himself] down to earth and get out of [his] head.” After that, he revealed, “I have a therapist now and a psychiatrist, which has been really helpful. When I got my bipolar disorder diagnosis, I felt like I had known for like the past three years, but I didn’t want to admit to it because I didn’t want to have to take medication.”

Lil Nas X continued his social media update by telling his fans that he’s in a much better headspace than he was in 2025. According to him, “I’m doing much better. I’m doing better, I’m feeling better, I’m creating freely, and there’s less fear in my heart.”
He went on to say, “I’m smelling the roses,” before reflecting on the fact that he’s been in the music industry for seven years.” After that, he revealed that he has a new project in the works. Lil Nas X stated, “I’m excited to go on this journey with you guys, this next chapter.”

After his social media post, fans are rallying around Lil Nas X and congratulating him for taking the necessary measures for his mental health. One person said, “So proud of you and thank you for being transparent.”
Another of his fans wrote, “Can’t keep a real one down.” Someone else replied, “Bro, you’ve been on my mind! Glad you didn’t lose your whimsy.” After that, another person chimed in, “Anybody else smiling ear to ear? I missed you, Montero. You’d better make yourself proud.”
A different social media user stated, “Getting into therapy was the best decision made for my mental health. Your words will let others know it’s okay to seek help.” Elsewhere on social media, fans urged Lil Nas X to take his time before stepping back into the spotlight.

According to ABC News, Lil Nas X was taken to a hospital and then arrested on August 21 for the incident on Ventura Boulevard. Footage from the day of the arrest shows him walking down the street, singing, and interacting with others, with one person in particular filming him as he urges them to “put the phone down?”
Per the outlet, he spoke out on Instagram Stories following his release. Lil Nas X said at the time, “Your girl is going to be OK, y’all. OK? She’s going to be all right, she’s going to be all right. Sh-t. That was f-cking terrifying. That was terrifying! That was a terrifying last four days, but your girl is going to be all right.”

Lil Nas X released his first album, “Montero,” in September 2021 to rave reviews and blockbuster sales. However, years passed, and he was set to release his sophomore album in 2025. However, the singles released, including “HOTBOX,” failed to make an impact, leading him to release only an extended play, “Days Before Dreaming,” in March of that year.
He spoke to PAPER about the direction of the then-proposed album. Lil Nas X shared, “Last time I was bringing the world to me. This time I’m bringing myself to the world.” Regarding the music, he stated, “It’s a collection of everything and anything I’ve ever loved or hated. It’s just me going out there and doing me in whichever form I feel.”
