West Brom in talks to sign 18-goal striker

After a bit of a lull at the end of the 2025/26 Championship season, West Bromwich Albion are starting to pick up the pace with their summer recruitment.

The Baggies are reportedly set to complete a deal to sign 19-year-old England youth international Carter Pinnington from Liverpool on a permanent deal, to bolster the depth of their defensive options.

James Morrison’s side are also in advanced talks with Premier League side Chelsea over a deal to bring Jimmy-Jay Morgan to The Hawthorns in the summer transfer window.

The 20-year-old attacker, who typically played as a number ten, spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Peterborough United in League One, and is now looking to take a step up in his career.

Morgan ended the campaign with a return of 14 goals and three assists in 38 appearances in all competitions, including 12 goals in 34 matches in the third tier of English football.

West Brom eyeing deal to sign Premiership centre-forward

The Chelsea youngster showed great signs of promise with his performances in League One on loan with the Posh, but it remains to be seen if he can make the jump up to the Championship.

Meanwhile, the club are reportedly in the mix to sign another attacker for Morrison who could be an even better addition to the squad in the off-season.

According to West Brom Xtra, West Bromwich Albion are still in talks to seal a deal to sign Falkirk centre-forward Barney Stewart to bolster their options at the top end of the pitch.

The report claims that the club have already seen one offer turned down for the Scottish marksman, and it remains to be seen how much the Premiership side are set to demand for their star forward.

It adds that they have identified the Scotland U21 international as their top target for the summer transfer window, as they look to add a new number nine to the squad.

Daryl Dike has already been released and Karlan Grant and Josh Maja both remain in contract talks ahead of their respective deals expiring at the end of this month.

Why Barney Stewart would be a better West Brom signing than Jimmy-Jay Morgan

If the Baggies can get a deal done for the Falkirk centre-forward in the coming weeks or months, he would be an even better signing than Jimmy-Jay Morgan this summer.

Whilst it remains to be seen if the Chelsea youngster can scale his performances up to a higher level, Stewart proved in the 2025/26 campaign that his goalscoring qualities shine through at any level.

The Scottish star spent the first half of the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Dunfermline in the second tier in Scotland, scoring four goals in 11 league matches before returning to Falkirk.

Stewart made a seamless transition to top-flight football in the Premiership in the second half of the season, scoring eight goals in just 17 league matches for Falkirk, and his minutes per goal rate barely changed from his time in the Championship.

This shows that the 22-year-old marksman, who scored 18 goals in all competitions for the two clubs combined, can scale his game up to play at higher levels, as he has clever movement and is an incredibly efficient finisher.

Stewart should, therefore, not have too many issues with adapting to life in the Championship with West Brom, which is why he could be a fantastic signing for the club, and an even better one than Morgan.

Whilst the English youngster showed promise in League One, he is yet to show that his performances can scale up. On top of that, Stewart’s 18-goal haul is more than Morgan has ever produced in a senior season in his career.

No West Brom player scored more than nine goals in the Championship this season, with Aune Heggebo ending the campaign as their top goalscorer, which suggests that Morrison needs a clinical number nine who can score more regularly next term.

Stewart’s form throughout the 2025/26 campaign for Dunfermline and Falkirk suggests that he may be exactly what the Baggies need, which is why they must now get a deal done for him in the coming weeks.
