Man Utd now ‘very close’ with camp of Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado

Manchester United are ramping up their summer business as they prepare for the official open of the transfer window on Monday.

The summer transfer window opens for business on June 15, and United have been one of the busiest teams in the Premier League in the early stages.

A deal for Ederson is all but done, with the Atalanta midfielder set to join up with the Red Devils once his World Cup campaign with Brazil is complete.

Several players have left Michael Carrick’s squad as well, with Casemiro revealing his departure earlier in the year and the exits of Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia confirmed last week.

England international Sancho, who joined United in a £73million switch from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, moves on after spending the past season on loan at Aston Villa.

The winger made just 83 appearances for United and also had loan spells back at Dortmund and at Chelsea. He has been linked with returns to both Dortmund and Villa.

Full-back Malacia, 26, made 50 appearances after joining from Feyenoord in 2022, with injuries hampering his progress.

INEOS are set to back Carrick with significant funding this summer, especially in midfield, where Fabrizio Romano has suggested they could make two further signings after Ederson.

“United have several candidates for the midfield, it could be two, it could be three.

“We have to see how many midfielders – at least two.”

One of those is expected to a big marquee signing, with all signs pointing towards West Ham United’s Matheus Fernandes, which would likely leave room for the third new face to be a cheaper option more in the Ederson range.

Man Utd eyeing Barcelona midfielder amid exit agreement

According to reports in Spain, via Sport Witness, Manchester United are eyeing a move for Barcelona defensive midfielder Marc Casado.

The Red Devils have a ‘very close’ relationship with the 22 year-old’s agent, Jorge Mendes.

The young Spaniard has reportedly reached an agreement with Barcelona to leave the club this summer, having fallen down Hansi Flick’s pecking order and lost out on a place in Spain’s World Cup squad.

Casado only started ten times in La Liga last season and just twice in the Champions League, but did complete over 91 per cent of his pass attempts in those games.

The youngster is not seen as a typical ‘tiki-taka’ La Masia graduate however, being praised for his physicality and work off the ball.

“He’s an animal,” said Spain international Bryan Zaragoza after playing against the Barca starlet. “I don’t even know what to say about how he played. He’s barbaric.”

United have also been linked with a move for Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson, but the hefty £120m price tag has seen INEOS turn towards cheaper options.
