As rumours persist that Kieran Trippier could rip up his Wolverhampton Wanderers contract before it even becomes official, incoming manager Cesar Peixoto is closing in on a potential replacement.
It’s been an unexpected week of chaos in the Midlands. Edwards believed things were smooth sailing. He played a key role in the arrival of Trippier and the return of Raul Jimenez and it looked as though he would be the man tasked with taking the club back to the Premier League.
Rumours then emerged that Peixoto was on his way before Wolves had even had the chance to sack their manager.
To sum up the mess that unfolded, Edwards was forced to call the club himself to ask about the rumours and it was only then that Wolves informed him of his dismissal. Speaking about the news, executive chairman Nathan Shi explained the decision.
“I would like to personally thank Rob and his staff for everything they have given to Wolves during what has been a very difficult period in the club’s recent history. Rob accepted the challenge of returning to Wolves at a time when the situation was extremely challenging, and throughout his time here he has conducted himself with professionalism, integrity and commitment.”
Trippier has been left particularly angered by the news and reports have gone as far as to claim that he’s ready to end his agreement with the Midlands club before it becomes official at the end of the month.
If that does happen, however, then Peixoto could have an instant solution lined up in the form of his first signing at Molineux.

As reported by Flashscore and relayed by Sport Witness, Wolves are now closing in on the arrival of Rodrigo Pinheiro. The right-back is reportedly “very close” to joining the Midlands club and the new manager has already approved his arrival.
Whether it’s a sign of what’s to come regarding the Trippier situation remains to be seen, but Wolves have at least got a potential replacement lined up if he does depart.
The 23-year-old defender represents the relatively unknown, but wouldn’t be the first Portuguese star to arrive before thriving at Wolves in the Championship.

The numbers suggest that Pinheiro’s arrival would push Trippier all the way if he stays put this summer. The young defender has plenty of potential and would be an excellent first signing for Peixoto.
