WWE pulls 30-year-old Champion from a major event

A current 30-year-old Champion was scheduled to appear in a non-WWE event, but he was forced to pull out due to a contractual obligation, and the promotion made a statement.

The superstar in question is the 30-year-old Aaron Rourke, who is the current Men’s Evolve Champion. Rourke has been a big hit, and he appeared most recently in NXT to be one of the judges (alongside Kit Wilson) in the contest to crown the new Mr. NXT. That title was won by the popular Shiloh Hill.

Either way, Rourke was scheduled to appear at Limitless Wrestling in June 20th, but WWE forced him to pull out due to contractual obligations he has with the company. This is a common reason given, as you will learn more below.

WWE also pulled multiple superstars from another wrestling event recently

On June 19th and 20th, there were multiple WWE I.D superstars who were scheduled to appear at the Dreamwave wrestling event. However, they were informed with only a couple of weeks that, due to a “contractual obligation”, the superstars were told that they would have to pull out of the event:

“Due to a WWE contractual obligation that everyone was informed of today, the following talent will not be appearing at All Star Weekend on June 19th and 20th. Veronica Haven (Fallyn Grey), Sloane Jacobs (The Notorious Mimi), Anya Rune (Airica Demia) and Laynie Luck.”

This situation admittedly seemed more bizarre than the Aaron Rourke one. While Rourke isn’t a full-fledged NXT star, he is a Champion under the company’s umbrella.

However, with I.D superstars, they are normally not featured on television so quickly, and NXT has only slowly begun to reintroduce some live events, presumably to give superstars and trainees some reps in the ring. This is something being done on the main roster as well.

Either way, one can’t help but feel for these smaller promotions that find themselves at the mercy of the industry juggernaut. It likely didn’t do much to change ticket sales, but it’s still devastating to suddenly have four names get pulled out due to something completely out of their control.
