The England National Cricket Team is currently going through a tough and unwanted situation after Test captain Ben Stokes got involved in a late-night nightclub incident after their dominant win over the New Zealand National Cricket Team in the first Test at Lord’s.
Stokes went out in London, where things reportedly got out of control at a nightclub. Fast bowler Gus Atkinson was also with him during the incident. A rugby academy player was also said to be involved in the heated argument.

This led the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to take strict action and removed Stokes from captaincy duties for the second Test against New Zealand. This decision has shocked many because Stokes is the captain and one of England’s biggest match-winners.
But this incident has now put him under serious pressure, and the cricket fraternity are even talking about whether he might retire from international cricket. However, Steve Harmison backed Ben Stokes while taking aim at ECB over nightclub controversy.
Amid the controversy, former England captain Nasser Hussain has strongly supported Ben Stokes. The cricket pundit feels this is a very low and emotional phase for Stokes, and any big decision taken now could hurt his career badly. Before him, Michael Vaughan backed Stokes.

Nasser Hussain was quoted as saying by the Sky Sports Cricket podcast: “Ben Stokes has been there for England a lot. He’s been there as a captain; he’s been there as a player at their finest moments – 50-over World Cups, T20 World Cups.”
Hussain also clearly said that Stokes has done a lot for England cricket over the years. He believes that even though what happened was wrong, it should not end his career or force him into retirement, as emotional decisions in such a situation can lead to regret later.
The former England captain also feels that Stokes might be thinking deeply about his future and talking to close advisors before taking any step, but he doesn’t want to end his journey in this way. There have been reports that Stokes could step down from the captaincy and may even retire from international cricket following the nightclub controversy.
Hussain also added, “He’s been a warrior for England, and he got it wrong this time – he got it horribly wrong. I don’t think that is a sackable offence. Ben will be in a dark place at the moment. I just hope Ben doesn’t think, I’ve let so many people down that I’m going to retire.”
“I’m going to make an emotional decision and retire because I think that would be a really sad way to end for one of England’s greats. One of England’s greats should not go out like that. I think he deserves better. I do feel a bit sad if this was the last we saw of Ben Stokes – I really hope it’s not.”
Notably, England had crushed New Zealand by 115 runs at Lord’s last week. The second Test against New Zealand is all set to begin on June 17 at The Oval.
